At Direction for Dogs, our mission extends far beyond training. We are dedicated to educating and supporting pet owners and our community through interactive demonstrations and educational workshops. It is the easiest, most affordable way to try a new skill, solve a real problem, or simply find out what we are all about without a full-course commitment. Curious about the difference between Agility and Fit Dog classes? Now is your chance to find out and see which one your dog likes best. We will try out some agility equipment like tunnels and jump poles and learn canine fitness exercises like cookie stretches. Both activities help dogs to gain coordination, confidence, and body awareness.

From the basics to advanced, our three progressive levels of obedience training give your dog the skills they need to thrive. Come discover how the classes differ, learn about our teaching style, and see what a typical class looks like in action. We will also tell you about American Kennel Club titles that you have the option of earning with your dog if that is something you want to pursue.

If you have a new puppy, this class will explain what socialization is, why it is so important, and how to do it correctly. Bring any questions you want answered from housetraining to behaviors and everything in between. The session will also include some supervised puppy playtime, which is an essential part of healthy development.

Learn how to use a clicker device and how the precise sound can make dog training easier and faster. We will start by practicing your clicker timing and technique and teaching your dog the meaning of a click. Then, we will use the clicker and a shaping method of training to teach the dogs a few fun and impressive tricks such as High-Five and Take a Bow.

Did you know a good mental workout can tire your dog out just as much or sometimes even more than a walk? Join us to learn the basics of scentwork, try hands-on enrichment games, and explore the many creative ways you can challenge your dog's mind every day. We will also discuss breed instincts and drives to help you find activities that align with what your dog was born to do so they feel fulfilled and not just tired.

Imagine your dog sitting calmly at the door without you saying a word. In this class, you will learn how to move beyond verbal commands and build a dog that thinks on their own. We will cover hand signals, and more importantly, how to develop automatic actions and default behaviors so your dog knows what to do without you constantly having to tell them to wait or leave it.

Do you dream of enjoying a meal with your canine companion by your side? This class will help prepare your pet to be polite dinner guest. You will learn some skills and etiquette needed to confidently take your dog to restaurants with ease and grace. From breweries and wineries to cafes and bistros, you will be equipped to handle every public eatery and even make meals at home a delightful experience.
Location: Held outside for a bring your own snacks picnic in the park.

Does your dog struggle with shyness or fear? This class will help you better understand what your dog is feeling and give you the tools to support them. You will learn how to read their body language for signs of fear, discomfort, and submission and how your own body language can impact your dog's behavior. We will cover the do's and don'ts of working through fear and how to help your dog build the confidence and independence to thrive.

If your dog barks, lunges, or growls at triggers like strangers or other animals, then this class is for you. You will learn how to handle those challenging outbursts confidently and effectively. We will work through techniques to help your dog stay calm, focused, and under threshold. Then, we will address the root of the problem by shifting their emotional response, helping them view their triggers in a more positive light to prevent reactions before they even start.

Whether your dog bounces off the walls when meeting someone new or hides behind your legs, this outdoor workshop gives you and your pup a space to practice your social skills. We will cover the basics of introducing your dog to new people and other dogs, but the real focus is hands-on practice. This class also includes a group pack walk, which is one of the most effective and natural ways to introduce dogs to each other.

Pack walks are structured, no-contact group walks where multiple dogs and their owners walk together. Parkour, also known as urban agility, is where dogs use their environment to climb, balance, and jump on everything from logs to park benches. The combination is a great activity for all dogs, especially those working on reactivity and socialization. Come learn more, give it a try, and see the benefits firsthand!
