Some dogs have a harder time staying calm and comfortable in the world around them. They may become overly excited, worried, reactive, or overwhelmed by things that seem normal to us. This program will give you the tools, guidance, and support to better understand your dog and help them feel more comfortable.
Every dog is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to helping them navigate situations that are difficult for them. This three-session program gives us time to identify your dog’s challenges, develop strategies that work for your situation, and practice skills that can help them feel calmer and more confident in everyday life.
Why Dogs React - Learn to recognize body language, understand different levels of fear and arousal, and identify what may be triggering your dog's behavior.
Supporting Your Dog - Learn practical ways to help your dog feel safe, including what to do, what to avoid, and how your own actions can influence their experience.
Calmness Skills - Practice tools such as Place, Touch, Look, pattern games, and relaxation exercises to help your dog calm down and reconnect with you.
Confidence Building - Use enrichment, movement, massage, and other activities to help your dog feel more comfortable and capable.
Working Through Reactions - Practice desensitization and counter-conditioning to help your dog respond more calmly to triggers.
Real-World Practice - Apply these skills through walks, greetings, socialization, and carefully managed exposure to situations that are challenging for your dog.
Does your dog sometimes bark, growl, or lunge at triggers, run and hide when something feels scary, or seem like they never stop moving? Maybe everyday situations leave your dog overwhelmed, worried, or overly excited. If you want to better understand what your dog is experiencing and learn how to help them feel more comfortable, this program may be right for you.
The Calm & Confident Program is for dogs 7 months and older who have already worked with me through private training or group classes.
Never worked with me before? Start with a First Session so I can get to know you and your dog and establish a clear direction for your training.
We can meet in the comfort of your own home, at my training facility, or take training on the road. Sessions can be held in parks, public buildings, or other outdoor locations to practice skills around new environments and distractions to help your dog become more confident and reliable in the real world.
Appointments are available during the day, evenings, and weekends. If you choose to meet at my training facility, please select an appointment on weekdays 6:30 p.m. or later, Saturdays 2 p.m or later, or anytime on Sundays.
My travel radius is within 10 miles of Downingtown Borough Hall (4 West Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335). Training beyond this area may still be available, but an additional travel fee may apply.
